Kowel Gwenen Update: Exam Provision to Continue Under CB Tutoring and Exams Ltd

Kowel Gwenen: The Hive CIC would like to thank everyone who has shown interest in and support for our mission to improve access to exams for private candidates across Cornwall.

Following extensive reflection and discussion, we are announcing a significant change in how this provision will be delivered. Rather than operating under the original CIC structure, the planned private exam centre will now form part of CB Tutoring, which will rebrand as CB Tutoring and Exams Ltd.

This transition allows for a more sustainable and timely rollout of exam provision, ensuring that students in Cornwall will have access to local, affordable exams by Summer 2026 — a goal that was not achievable under the CIC model due to funding and logistical limitations.

While the exam centre will no longer launch under the name Kowel Gwenen, the values and vision that inspired it remain very much alive. It is hoped that Kowel Gwenen: The Hive CIC will continue in a revised role, with a new focus on launching a bursary scheme to support private candidates in meeting the cost of sitting exams. More details on this initiative will be shared in due course.

This change may come as a surprise to some, and we are sincerely grateful for the understanding and encouragement we’ve received from our community. Our commitment remains unchanged: to make high-quality, accessible exam opportunities available to learners across Cornwall — particularly those who are home-educated or preparing as private candidates.
